Job Title: GPS Software Application Engineer
Reporting to: Application Director
Location: Manno - Switzerland or Cambridge – UK
Purpose
The applications team has the mission to accelerate the time-to-volume cycle for NemeriX products by:
- Increasing technical presence in front of customers and reduce response time
- Better supporting the sales forces in the field
- Coordinating communication between R&D and sales
In addition, the application team also plays the role of ‘first internal customer’ in using new products so that a) initial feedback can be directly given to R&D and b) the internal know-how on how to implement final applications is built and transferred to sales and customers.
The open position is for an experienced software (SW) engineer, ideally with GPS experience, to expand the current team.
Major Duties
- Define, develop and test SW modules or applications, typically running on top of the core GPS stack, based on NemeriX components
- Define and develop Windows PC based applications based on NemeriX Tools library components
- Closely work with the Field Application Engineering (FAE) team to define and implement customized versions of the standard SW – both embedded and PC based
- Provide in-depth support for the Field Application Engineering (FAE) team in resolving complex software and systems issues
- Closely work with the R&D team to define interfaces to application level SW that allow easy deployment into customers solutions
- Closely work with R&D to evaluate, test and improve NemeriX products
- Write product specifications based on customers requirements
- Write technical documentation, datasheets and application notes
- Transfer knowledge to the sales forces, FAE in particular on the product characteristics and how to deploy them in the final application
The Candidate
- Has a university degree or similar in software / electronic engineering or informatics
- Has proven skills in embedded SW programming in C/C++ and preferably assembler
- Has proven skills in Windows C++ SW programming
- Preferably has proven GPS knowledge
- Can work with hardware components, in the field and in the lab
- Preferably has experience with PCB design and debugging
- Preferably understands wireless systems (Bluetooth, mobile telephony,…)
- Can understand application requirements and transform them into specifications
- Is flexible and willing to accept challenges
- Innovative with practical problem solving ability
- Good communicator and team player
- Can take the lead on small projects
- Is fluent in written and spoken English, able to generate technical documentation
